The Expo was a significant event for the Sunshine Coast and offered people of all ages an opportunity to both learn how to prepare for emergencies and see first-hand how emergency services personnel respond when the worst happens.
Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Cr. Mark Jamieson [pictured] officially opened the event which was delivered in partnership with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services – QFES, Queensland Police Service (QPS Sunshine Coast), Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), State Emergency Service (SES), Australian Red Cross, Lifeflight, Surf Life Saving Queensland, Unitywater, McDermott Aviation, Australian Volunteer Coastguard, Maritime Safety Queensland, the ABC and Volunteering Sunshine Coast.
As well as all the exciting demonstrations, there were a host of exhibits hosted by council, emergency services and sector agencies where people were enthralled, educated, and experienced the best of our local emergency services.
Volunteering Sunshine Coast were excited to present to interested people the benefits of general volunteerism along with receiving a host of expressions of interest to assist in leading, managing, and supporting spontaneous volunteers following natural disasters. The Mayor, commented on the invaluable service and contribution VSC makes to the delivery and co-ordinator of volunteer management across the Sunshine Coast – stating “…you guys do a really good job!”
Many thanks to our team at Volunteering Sunshine Coast – Ashley Talbot-Butt [and Jane], Paul Smith, and Chris Scott. Along with SCC co-ordinator Jason Membrey and Nambour & Dist. SES Britney Murphy.
